Disney's Newest Hotel Has a Date: Lakeshore Lodge Opens July 2027, and Booking Starts October 8
Disney finally put a date on its newest hotel. Disney's Lakeshore Lodge opens July 1, 2027, and the booking window starts a lot sooner than that. General reservations open October 8, about five weeks from now.
The resort sits on Bay Lake, on the ground where River Country used to be, between Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. It's 967 rooms. And it's the first entirely new resort in the Magic Kingdom area since Wilderness Lodge opened in 1994. Everything built over there since then has been a tower or a villa wing added onto something that already existed.
Disney also released the first room photos last week, and the lineup is more varied than usual.
Duo Studios sleep two and are themed to Encanto. Resort Studios sleep four with a Pocahontas look, and there's a king version for two. Deluxe Studios and the one and two bedroom villas run on Bambi, with forest colors and concept art pulled out of the Walt Disney Archives. Three bedroom Grand Villas sleep twelve and go Fantasia. Club level guests get a lounge called The Artist's Nest with a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.
Then there are the Lake Houses, which are the ones I'd be watching. Freestanding A-frame buildings right on the water, floor to ceiling windows, a private porch, full kitchen, washer and dryer, sleeping five or eight depending on size. Brother Bear artwork inside, including a northern lights installation in the main bedroom. Nothing else at Walt Disney World looks like that.
Now the booking part, because it runs on three separate dates.
Disney Vacation Club members can call October 6. Walt Disney World Annual Passholders get October 7. Everybody else, October 8. If you want opening summer at a brand new resort, October 8 is your date, and it isn't a soft deadline. Opening windows at new Disney resorts go quickly, and July 1 lands right in the middle of summer break.
Two honest cautions before anybody gets carried away.
Disney has not published rates. Not one number. A Bay Lake deluxe resort with waterfront lake houses is not going to be cheap, and I'm not going to guess at it in a blog post. When pricing posts, I'll tell you what it actually costs.
And July in central Florida is the hottest, wettest, most crowded stretch of the year. If a July 2027 trip only appeals because a new hotel is opening, think about it twice. I've written before about why the shoulder weeks make a better trip, and a new building doesn't change that math.
For a family up here, the useful piece is lead time. A summer 2027 trip booked this October gives you close to twenty months to pay it down, which is the whole argument for booking early. I laid out how the payment schedule works if that's the part you're weighing.
One more thing worth knowing: the rest of the 2027 Walt Disney World calendar is getting busy. Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios and the rebuilt Carousel of Progress both land that year too, which I covered in the D23 recap. A lot of people are going to be looking at 2027 dates at the same time.
If Lakeshore Lodge is on your radar, tell me now and I'll watch the October dates for you. Planning through me costs you nothing, because Disney pays my commission instead of charging you a fee, so your trip prices the same as booking it yourself. Send me a note and we'll talk through whether opening summer is worth it for your family, or whether you'd rather go a year later and let them work the kinks out.
